You Said YES, Now What?

So he popped the question and you said… “yes!” Be sure to take the time to actually enjoy the newness and exciting nature of your engagement when you take a break from staring at the ring on your finger. When you’re ready, we’re here to help you with what’s next {after you call your mom of course}. The first decisions you make after you get engaged will set you up for success. From the nitty-gritty to the daydreams, here are the 8 tasks that will be sure to kick start your engagement!

#1 Share the News

Our first tidbit of advice after you pop some bubbly, is to call your VIPs first {your parents, family, and closest friends}. Be prepared to share your proposal story … a lot! After you share the news with your inner circle you can share it with the rest of the world online.

#2 Treat Yo’ Self and Protect That Ring!

One of our favorite things to do right after you get engaged is to treat yourself to a gel manicure. You will be showing off your ring countless times so why not have your fingers in tip top shape? We also recommend getting your ring sized and insured. You don’t want it too loose that it could fall off, or too tight that it’s uncomfortable. Nothing can replace the sentimental value of your ring, but worst case scenario your ring will be covered financially. Insuring your ring on your renters or home policy will give you the funds to get a replacement should something happen.

#3 Start Daydreaming … a Lot

Take time to close your eyes and picture your wedding day. Now is the time to start dreaming and visualizing the overall style and vibe of your wedding! Is it indoor or outdoor? On a beach? In the woods? An industrial venue? Making small decisions like these will help you narrow down your big choices like time of year and location. Don’t hesitate to gather inspiration from bridal magazines, Instagram, Pinterest, and even wedding movies {Father of the Bride, and 27 Dresses are the best!}. The bottom line is that there are absolutely no rules. If you’ve never seen your ideas done before let’s work together to make them a reality! If you want classic details that have been done hundreds of times – that’s great too. Events by Rebecca will help bring every aspect of your wedding day to life, one dream at a time.

#4 Narrow Down Your Date

Although you can’t solidify your date until other decisions are made, like officially booking your venue, we recommend choosing a range of ideal dates for your wedding day. Think about what season your dream wedding takes place in, what birthdays or holidays you’d like to avoid, or be near. Think about how long you want to be engaged and how long you realistically need to plan – even if it’s a vague estimation. Although the average engagement is 12 – 15 months, other timelines can be possible, especially if you hire a wedding coordinator.

#5 Talk Numbers (Money and Guests)

It is very important to talk numbers early! These will affect every decision and purchase to follow and even save you from heartache. After you get a ballpark number for your budget, we recommend making a wedding saving account. After talking to your fiance, it’s also important to have the budget conversation with your parents if they are pitching in so you can find out early on what everyone is willing to spend and contribute. Now that you have a general budget outlined, you can start thinking about an estimated guest count. Be sure to ask your parents for their input as well so you don’t forget anyone.

#6 Hire a Professional Wedding Coordinator

In the first stages of your engagement, hiring a wedding coordinator is the way to go, especially if you want full coordination for your big day! You will be able to relax and enjoy your once-in-a-lifetime wedding moments without having to worry about vendor communication, contract negotiations, styling and logistics of rentals and color palettes, booking the wrong people, and endless other planning details.

Events by Rebecca offers day of coordination, partial planning ,full coordination, and boutique creation as well as a la carte services, providing whatever range of assistance is best suited for you. We even can create a custom package to fit your specific needs, all weddings are different of course! This will let you focus on nothing other than fully enjoying your engagement through to the wedding day itself. After all, it’s your vision – let us help you bring that to life! Even if you decide that you want only Day {Month} Of Coordination or Partial Planning, getting in contact early is still the best way to ensure availability.

#7 Book Your Priority Vendors

Now that you know your ideal wedding date range, your budget estimate, and rough guest count – it’s time to secure your priority vendors! Snapping up vendors like your venue, photographer, band/DJ, and catering are a few we feel are super important as they tend to book out far in advance. Events By Rebecca will help you with all of these! We can tour venues together, find the perfect photographer that matches your style, and use our experience to pair you with your ideal vendor team based on what’s most important to you and your fiance. Often the availability of your priority vendors will determine your actual wedding date, which is why it’s so important to secure the ones you love early on in the planning process.

#8 Enjoy every moment of your engagement, it will go by quicker than you think!

We hope these tasks give you a good baseline for what to do now that you’ve got that ring on your finger! It may seem a bit overwhelming, but don’t worry – we’re here to help you every step of the way.
