Introducing: Christine + Matt

We can’t help but share our love for these two and their engagement story with you all before their wedding this weekend in Elk Grove! The story of how Christine + Matt is one of chance and destiny. They have so much in common, many mutual friends, and similar family history’s; their grandparents have known each other for decades, and his best friend is married to one of her childhood friends – what are the chances? It was just a matter of time until these two met and hit it off!

EBR: So first and foremost, start us from the beginning. How did you two meet?

Christine + Matt:

“We were introduced over happy hour drinks at the Zebra Club by a mutual friend (a coworker of mine and Matt’s former boss). Matt was on the hunt for a new job and wanted to talk with her about some opportunities. She called to invite me to join while I was on my way home from work. It had been a really long day, and I just wanted to go home, but decided a quick drink wouldn’t hurt. We hit it off talking, but nothing happened.

“We ended up bumping back into each other at the Zebra Club again after a fluke chance (someone took my Uber from a Sac Republic game so I hopped in with another group going to the Zebra Club). He ended up following me and my group of friends to the Merc where he finally got my number. We started dating right after.”

This story is filled with so many chance occurrences that led to them bumping into each other and finally being together, and then to an engagement!

EBR: And of course we have to hear the engagement story!

Christine: “We were planning to go to San Francisco over Valentine’s Day weekend to meet with my family at the SF Chronicle Wine Competition (a traditional get-together in my family). It was the same weekend as Giants Fan Fest, when you have all access to AT&T Park. We are both huge giants fans, and decided to make a whole weekend out of it.”

“I’d come down with a horrible cold and wanted to cancel the weekend. But Matt seemed super excited to go, so I sucked it up and doubled down on cold medicine. When we got to AT&T Park, I was kind of crabby and told Matt that Kanye West proposing to Kim Kardashian on the field there had kind of tarnished the ballpark. Matt quickly responded “no it hasn’t!” and kept us moving to the field.”

“When we got down onto the field, I wasn’t sure where we would go first. You could meet players, take a tour of the locker room… or apparently get engaged. I turned around and Matt was on his knee with a ring. I have NO clue what he said (which I feel hugely guilty about), but my first reaction was shock. My go-to “shocked” phrase is “stop it,” which is not the best thing to say during a proposal. Then he kept trying to put the ring on my right hand, so I repeated “no, no, no.” So even though I was thinking “YES!” the only words that came out of my mouth were “stop it, no, no, stop it!””

That moment of shock and excitement during a proposal can be so exhilarating! Here we are months later ready for them to turn this engagement into a wedding! Even their adorable dog is excited for her humans to get married.
